12 Wines of Christmas

Bubbly

Riondo Procecco. (Italy)

This crisp bubbly was highly rated (90) points in The Wine Advocate. Our family tradition is to add orange juice (Mimosa) or peach juice (Bellini) for Christmas morning cheer with a cheesy breakfast casserole.

Charmeroy Brut (France)

The perfect everyday sparkler with soft apple notes is from Burgundy, France. Its color is light yellow with green. This bubbly will pair well with aperitif or light dishes of seafood, salads.

Codornui (Spain)

This sparkling treasure from is made of a blend of grapes traditionally used in cava. It is fruity but ends on a crisp dry note. This would be great for your holiday toast!

White

Guenoc Chardonnay (California)

This wine has clean, fruit forward flavors with peach, pear and juicy fruit aromas. It pairs beautifully with salmon and other seafood, chicken and a variety of appetizers or it can be enjoyed on its own.

Casal Garcia Vinho Verde (Portugal)

Casal Garcia Vinho Verde is a blend of the native Portuguese grapes from the Vinho Verde region of Portugal. It is light yellow-green in color, with the scent of citrus, and a crisp, lightly effervescence. It is a great accompaniment to seafood and fruit salads. This is often our choice for the perfect after work refresher!

Calaboose Cellars -- Christmas Catawba (Andrews, NC)

"...Catawba wine has a taste more divine, more dulcet, delicious, and dreamy," Longfellow once wrote, and Calaboose Cellars' Catawba is no exception. This native American grape grown by Wood Farm in Andrews, NC, yields a sweet, delicately fruity wine perfect for holiday poultry.

Red

Vina Borgia Grenache (Spain)

This wine is bright ruby in color. It is made from 100% Grenache, or garnacha as it is called in Spain. It is full of black cherry and spice flavors. This versatile wine will accompany a wide variety of dishes: a hearty soup, strong cheese, grilled steak, or even your Christmas dinner. The great flavors of this wine will be enhanced if you open it up and give it time to breathe before you drink it.

Fazi Battaglia Sangiovese – (Italy)

Besides the sexy looking bottle and cool little map that is attached, this wine is delicious! Sangiovese is the grape used in Chianti. It has the flavors of fresh and dried currant, cassis and blackberry. When we are invited to dinner, I often bring this wine as a “hostess gift” because it makes a good conversation piece and adds to a memorable evening.

Fabre Montmayou Malbec. (Argentina)

The Malbec grape is considered the grape of Argentina, This wine is100% Malbec and harvested by hand! It can be cellared for 6 to 8 years. It pairs well with red meats and also with strong cheeses. Our daughter Autumn visited this winery when she was in Argentina and was impressed by their organic growing practices.

Cannonau di Sardegna (Italy)

As seen on the Dr. Oz Show and Good Morning America, a study was done to find out the reasons the people of Sardinea, Italy so often live past 100 years of age. It was found that a contributing factor is this delicious wine that is loaded with anti- oxidants that are great for your heart! We have found this to be much more fun than Geritol!

Bodegas Nieto Senetiner (Argentina)

This fabulous blend is 34% cabernet sauvignon, 33% malbec and 33% merlot. It is smooth and one of our personal favorites. We often call it our “house wine”…that means we take cases of it to our house to drink.

Choco vine (Holland)

This holiday favorite is a French Cabernet combined with rich dark chocolate from Holland, creating a decadent, silky smooth drink. It can be served on the rocks or as the main ingredient to an array of cocktails. Chocolate and wine are both rich in antioxidants, making this a healthy combination as well.
