Discover this beautiful nature walk along two rivers surrounding the historic town center, and experience the sense of its Cherokee heritage along the way.The Murphy river Walk takes you through many natural environments that just to immediately surround the historic town center. From crossing Park, you'll follow the beautiful Valley River to its meeting with the Every River and and lake backwaters, passing through open meadowland, marshy wetland, hardwood forest, and around a rock cliff. The paved, gravel, boardwalk and bridge surfaces of the river walk have been constructed with respect to the natural environment, and its host of native plant and wild life.Future construction phases will extend the River Walk along the ground River, all the way in to the Historic L&N Depot in downtown Murphy. The Legend of the Great Leech. Cherokee legend reveals the story of the Great Leech, living in a deep hole below the old rock ledge crossing in the Valley River.Known among the Cherokees as Tianusi'yi,The Leech Place can be seen from the river Walk bridge overlook. The legendary giant leech, with its red and white striped markings, would cause the water to boil up into a white foam. then, a great wave would rise up and sweep people on the rock ledge off their feet and into the deep hole on the river below. Watch carefully, as some would say the Great Leech is still there. Every day is a great day on the river walk, and you can take it briskly or at your leisure. It's a joy to discover and experience, and we thank you for helping us keep the River Walk clean, litter free and eco-friendly. Please be aware that when Mother Nature brings the river up, parts of the walking trail may go under water. If that happens just double back to higher ground, and come again after the water recedes.www.heritagepartners.orgYour Mountain view sepcialist,Jack Shingler,Broker,Exit RealtyMountainView Properties,877-837-2288 0r 321-279-1049,www.mountainwineandhomes.com,Jack Shinglerwww.mountainwineandhomes.com
