Stocked River and Streams are a Fisherman dream. The rushing cold water of the rivers and streams are full of trout,some stocked by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission.In Cherokee County creeks 14,695 trout are stocked along 48 miles of creeks.Debbie Howard,Owner of Howards Bait and Tackle said the economy hasn't discouraged people from buying fishing licences this year.The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission as a general stocking rate is 75 fish per surface acre of water.the stocking rate is about twice that for a catch-and-release streams.The state stocked 850,000 trout a year of catchable size.Stocking is equation on whether to stock a stream is water temperature and usage.Streams with higher use and colder water are good for June and July stocking since trout need colder water to survive.A lot of people think that if a stream is not stocked that it has no trout in that is not true at all,most of the streams in Cherokee County have trout in them,Most trout fisherman say one of the hardest thing to do is stop fishing and go home for the big one is just around the next corner!
