This letter is being written on this the 1st day of July 2009. It is meant to express my knowledge of Jack Shingler. I first met Jack by chance when I walked into Exit realty in Murphy, N.C. with questions about listing a piece of property I had for sale. Jack just happened to the one in the office who greeted me that day, lucky me. I found Jack to be very friendly and professional. He showed me what Exit offered as services, if I should chose to list my property with them. He was very up front with everything listing with Exit would entail. I felt very well informed as to what they would offer, the fees etc. should I choose to list with exit.

I did choose to list with Exit and Jack became my realtor. Jack always kept me up to date on any activity there may be on my property. If he showed it to anyone he would let me know and then inform me of the reason they liked it or why it may not be what the customer was looking for. Jack also sent me regular information as to where my property was being advertised. I never had to wonder what if anything was going on.

Jack takes a very personal interest in any of his clients. He is not afraid to work above and beyond to meet their needs. I remember the first time I realized how great a person he was when we purchased furniture and part of our order did not arrive. Now that was a problem as we live in Florida. I never asked Jack if he could help, nor would I have even thought to ask. He volunteered. He said he would be glad to be at the house when the furniture arrived and see it was put into place in the home. He said when we had him as our listing agent helping in any way he could was part of his service. Jack quickly became more than a listing agent, he became a friend. Since then there have been MANY more instances when he has volunteered his services, as a friend would. A few examples are as follows, checking on the electric when our bill went sky high, turning on the water and power when people were coming in from out of town to stay in the house, offering Exits cleaning woman when I was in search of someone to clean my home, even going to the property and taking pictures to e-mail me so I could see how the property looked during different seasons. The list goes on and on. Oh and least I forget, Jack and his wife bringing over a bottle of his homemade wine, to sitting on our porch and share with us. Now how is that for a listing agent? No, as you can see Jack is much more than just a listing agent, he is a friend. Jack is this way to all of the people who are lucky enough to have him list their property, or buy a piece of property from him. I have been speaking to him many times say he was doing something for his out of town friends, even mowing their yards when needed. I am in N.C. in the summer alone a lot and I have no doubt if I needed anything Jack would be there to help. All in all Jack is a great realtor and has become a wonderful friend. Apalachia Lake

North Carolina

Construction of the Apalachia Dam began July 17, 1941 and closure took place on February 14, 1943. The length of the Dam is 1308 feet.

TVA's 1100-acre Apalachia Lake is located entirely within Cherokee County, North Carolina,west of Murphy.

The Lake is 9.8 miles long, and has 31 miles of shoreline, and collects rainfall from a 1010 square-mile watershed.

Because the lake was not designed for flood control, TVA maintains the water level in the lake between the elevation range of 1272 and 1280 feet, except durind special operations for activities such as dam maintenance.

A pipeline and tunnel system carries water from the lake 8.3 miles to the power house downriver to generate electricity.


Although TVA normally ertains land and landrights around its lakes,TVA transferred 2500 acres of land around Apalachia Lake to the Forest Service as a conribtion to the Nantahala National Forest.

The Forest Service manages all the land around this lake,with the exception of the TVA Apalachia Dam Resevation.

There is no private shoreline development around Lake Apalachia.

Recreation

TVA maintains the Apalachia Dam Reservation.

The U.S. Forest Service maintains facilities as part of the national forest and primitive camping is allowed in the forest unless otherwise posted. For information on these facilities, call (

There are no commercial recreation facilities on the lake.

Apalachia Lake is a small,deep,cool-water lake in a Mountainous setting.It receives littie fishing pressure because of its isolated nature. Sport fish include Smallmounth bass,Spotted bass, Largemounth bass, redbreast sunfish and white bass.
